Microsoft's Licenses Are Changing:
Here's What You Need To Know

Microsoft is changing how your license subscriptions are renewed, here’s what you need to look out for so you don’t get charged:

Currently, when a subscription ends and auto-renew is turned off, you keep access to Microsoft services for an extra 30 days – a welcome safety net in case you miss a renewal deadline.

Come 4th of May, that’s no longer the case, and these are what’s replacing the existing system:

  • Renew your subscription
  • Cancel at the end of your term (with access gone on the same day)
  • Extended Service Term (EST) – your subscription continues, paid monthly at the regular rate plus 3%. This will be the default option if you don’t manually cancel.

But it gets trickier:

If you’ve got auto-renew turned off, but without explicitly setting cancel, your subscription will be auto-enrolled into EST, and you’ll be billed the next day.

Of course, we’ll keep you up to date on your renewal dates on licenses we manage, to make sure that you’re aware of when your subscription renews, and you know what your options are well in advance, meaning you can make an informed decision, and avoid any unwanted bills for services you aren’t using.

As always, if you’ve got questions about the new changes, get in touch with us and we’ll help you every step of the way.
